Google provoked a mixed response when it first unveiled Google Glass, high-tech glasses that act as a smartphone-like device controlled by eye movement. But as the device continues to move through development, local technology leader of Everspark Interactive, Jason Hennessey says that it’s likely to be a surprise hit perhaps on the order of the iPhone.
Only a few thousand Google Glass eyeglasses are in use by a select group of developers, testers & early adopters. But for that small base of users the glasses now offer a variety of apps, some mimicking the apps used on usual smart phones & others unique to Glass according to CNET (5.6.2013).
Hennessey, who founded internet marketing giant Everspark Interactive, has made his career on predicting what will appeal to internet users. He says that despite pushback, Glass offers a kind of functionality that will attract a large following.
Who would need the internet on their phone? Hennessey asked. That’s what people said approximately the first smartphones. They took a service we all use & putting it on a platform we weren’t used to. That device succeeded because of a new level of convenience, & that’s what Glass offers.
Glass promises controls based on facial expressions as well as the touch of a finger, which Hennessey says will come naturally to many people.
People worry approximately being wired all the time, yet when you do use a device you want it to be as effortless as possible, Hennessey said. This kind of device is even more intuitive than touch screen, & it leaves your hands free.
Google says Glass will be commercially available in 2014.
